November 4, 2009—Principal Heather Graham announced today that D.A. Moodie's school hours could be from 9:30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. starting September, 2010. In addition to a favourable response from 85% of D.A. staff and up to 71% of parents, Ms. Graham said that the benchmark used for this decision is: "Will a later start time improve student learning and/or student safety? It is actually the benchmark that I use for all decision making in school," she added.
Welcome to our website!
We are pleased to be able to give you all the D. A. Moodie news electronically in a website that reflects our school’s colours — grey, burgundy and white. Here you will find general information about our school, the latest newsletters and notices, information about extracurricular activities, a special Resources page for students and teachers, and a link to School Council information.
D. Aubrey Moodie Intermediate School serves the educational needs of over 400 students in Grades 6, 7, and 8 from the Lakeview, Bell's Corners, and Bayshore areas of Ottawa, Ontario. Our students come from wonderfully diverse ethnic, racial, and faith communities. Students are enrolled in the Regular English or Early French Immersion Program. We also have an English as a Second Language Program, and students with special learning needs can access the programs and services offered by our Special Education Department. There are two special education system classes - the General Learning Program and the Developmentally Disabilities Class.
H1N1 vaccine soon available for school-aged children
October 30, 2009—Prevention works. Now that the vaccine is available, it is strongly encouraged that parents and their children get vaccinated when the supply of vaccine allows. Children over six months are eligible for the H1N1 vaccine. Children under 10 years of age require two doses, 21 days apart. The free vaccine is currently available through the Ottawa Public Health vaccination clinics. We are currently focusing on priority groups, which include children from 6 months to 5 years, as well as children with chronic conditions. The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care announced on November 4 that school-aged children will be next in line to receive the vaccine. For information on locations and schedules, please contact 3-1-1 or visit Ottawa.ca/health. Clinics fill quickly, and I urge you to be patient and bring toys and activities to make the wait more tolerable.
