A Community of Character

characterThe following OCDSB attributes are displayed around our school, and can also be found on the back of our student agenda.  They are: Acceptance, Appreciation, Cooperation, Empathy, Fairness, Integrity, Optimism, Perseverance, Respect and Responsibility. 

Character Education continues to be a focus where we endeavour to develop and embed the ten OCDSB character attributes in our students.  These attributes are imparted to our students on a daily basis here at DA Moodie.  During September orientation activities, the attribute of respect was a focus and was delivered through workshops, focused lessons and assemblies.  All of the attributes are important, and will be embedded in our students through varied avenues, especially during those ‘teachable moments’ throughout the entire school year.  We encourage parents to talk about and show examples of these attributes with their children as often as possible. 

Although we will highlight one character attribute each month, students are recognized for exemplifying the characteristics of any of the attributes at any time.  Students who are worthy are then nominated by their peers or a teacher, and have their name entered into our monthly draw for prizes such as Ottawa 67 hockey tickets, Gee Gees basketball tickets, and treat coupons.  


Our character trait for March is fairness
I make decisions based upon the whole picture. I treat others the way I would like to be treated I am just.

February focused on empathy

Our February, 2010 character attribute focus was Empathy. The teachers at D. Aubrey continued to embed all of the OCDSB Character Traits in our students on a daily basis and especially during those teachable moments. Rewards given out included Ottawa 67’s tickets and T-Shirts donated by EB Games. Thank you parents for your continued support as we partner to develop positive character attributes in our students.

We thank the community
As always, we thank the Ottawa 67’s Hockey Club and The Minto Group for their donation of tickets to watch the 67’s in action. Parents, please remember to send a word of appreciation to The Minto Group. We also thank one of guest teachers, and her family for their generous donation of Nike t-shirts, track pants, shorts and sports balls, and to our local businesses for their donation of passes to local sporting arenas. As well, thank you to the uOttawa Gee Gees Men’s Basketball program for their donation of tickets and summer camp passes
