Character Education Updates

A Community of Character

characterThe following OCDSB attributes are displayed around our school, and can also be found on the back of our student agenda.  They are: Acceptance, Appreciation, Cooperation, Empathy, Fairness, Integrity, Optimism, Perseverance, Respect and Responsibility.

Character Education continues to be a focus where we endeavour to develop and embed the ten OCDSB character attributes in our students.  These attributes are imparted to our students on a daily basis here at DA Moodie.  During September orientation activities, the attribute of respect was a focus and was delivered through workshops, focused lessons and assemblies.  All of the attributes are important, and will be embedded in our students through varied avenues, especially during those ‘teachable moments’ throughout the entire school year.  We encourage parents to talk about and show examples of these attributes with their children as often as possible.

Although we will highlight one character attribute each month, students are recognized for exemplifying the characteristics of any of the attributes at any time.  Students who are worthy are then nominated by their peers or a teacher, and have their name entered into our monthly draw for prizes such as Ottawa 67 hockey tickets, Gee Gees basketball tickets, and treat coupons.

Character development is an integral part of education, which showcases the importance of leadership, sharing, commitment, caring and respect.  We at D. Aubrey Moodie along with our school community work together to model good character attributes for our students.  We thank all our parents for their support throughout the year, the Ottawa 67’s hockey organization and the Minto Group for sponsoring us through the Adopt-a-School initiative, and all our special guests who shared life-long lessons with us.  Thank you.
